What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.

Congratulations to Kaitlyn Skala, the winner of Atlanta Dental Spa’s 2015 Scholarship Program!

We received a record-breaking number of submissions this year – over 3500! Submissions came to us from all 50 states, from all walks of life. We were blown away by the tremendous amount of responses and the quality of the essays we received.

Kaitlyn wrote to use from Hillsboro, WI. Her essay detailed her efforts to maintain great grades while working to earn money toward her educational goals. She has been working at a local dairy farm since 8th grade, a job that requires long hours and a ton of determination.

Watch as Myki opens his scholarship award package:

Atlanta, September 11, 2013 –Atlanta Dental Spa awarded $1000 to Se-Young (Myki) Lee of Los Angeles after accepting more than 950 submissions from students across the country this summer.

Lee submitted an essay that detailed a background of familial and financial hardships laced with consistent dedication to volunteer community outreach and technology education. “I hope to push forward humanity’s understanding of the cerebrum to understand disease on a deeper level—for if we are able to harness the power of the brain, we will not only be able to understand ourselves on a deeper level, but we will able to harness the power of the universe,” says Lee.

The UCLA neuroscience and biomedical research student plans to continue living at home to maintain a full-time tutoring schedule that will support his mother and father. He plans to voluntarily study multiple sclerosis disease in the weeks leading to his first quarter next month.

“I see not myself alone making contributions to my field, but my team—my group—making a collaborative effort to benefit humanity: because the potential for what science can do for us is infinite—it is just a matter of working together to figure it out,” says Lee.

Lee was given the $1,000 award and a handwritten congratulations from the Atlanta Dental Spa team.

“We were overwhelmed by the response to the scholarship program. Our team received hundreds of excellent submissions – the decision was not an easy one,” says Dr. Peter Boulden. “Myki Lee’s submission was compelling and inspiring. His dogged determination and compassion for others is remarkable and we couldn’t be more proud to support his impressive academic goals.”
