There are a lot of frequently asked questions that we get. A lot of time we get questions about whitening, clenching and grinding - for a lot of patients it has been a long time since they've been in, so there's usually a lot of topics that we discuss in the first visit. Since patients typically see us more than they see their primary care doctor, a lot of times the patients have hypertension and we actually catch it in the dental chair since we take blood pressure consistently at every hygiene appointment.
The number one thing patients say is, "I don't know if I clench and grind." The biggest ways to know if you clench and grind: number one, if you're clenching during the day - your teeth should never touch. The only time your teeth should ever touch is when you're chewing. Other than that, they should always be separated.
One other topic that we get a lot is when to floss, how to floss, how often to floss - do you floss before you brush or after you brush - it doesn't matter as long as you floss! We suggest trying to fit it into your schedule in any way you can - after a meal, before you hit the gym, any time you brush.. JUST FLOSS! It shouldn't hurt when you floss, so if you have bleeding or tenderness, you shouldn't. You want to be gentle about the way you're flossing, you don't want to snap it between your teeth and hurt your gums. The more consistent you are, the better. Find a floss you like and get to work!
When you come in, we want you to feel comfortable talking to us about your overall health and homecare. It's OKAY if you don't floss every day, you can tell us that. We'll get you into a routine or regimen that works best for you and your lifestyle. We're happy and excited that you're here! Welcome to the family and we look forward to seeing you soon here at Atlanta Dental Spa!
